Ecofirst Install 11.5kW PV System on Power Station Site
Project: npower Aberthaw Power Station, Visitor Centre, South Wales
Ecofirst are the recognised solar pv specialist for RWE npower in the UK, handling domestic installations and commercial projects. The visitor centre at npower’s Aberthaw power station caters to school trips and special interest groups and provides tours demonstrating electricity generation and npower’s efforts to minimise the social and environmental impact of power production.
Peter Marner, section head of production projects for RWE npower, wanted to both expand the educational services offered by the centre and make a big reduction in carbon emissions. Following consideration of many proposals a 11.52KWP solar photovoltaic system from Ecofirst was selected. “Given the location and orientation of the visitor centre a solar pv installation was the most cost effective solution for our needs, the system from Ecofirst has been designed, installed and commissioned to specification and will be a rewarding environmental addition to our visitor centre”.
Aidan Morris, MD of Ecofirst, agrees “In addition to the 9,600kwh of electricity consumption saved by the visitor centre carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by over 5,000kg per annum. We are very pleased to have been selected to work with npower on this project and hopefully the children passing through the centre will learn more about generating electricity from the sun”.
