Yeovil MP David Laws Comes to Ecofirst
Yeovil MP David Laws visited Ecofirst on 30th September 2010 and learnt all about our activities and those of our sister company Woodpecker Energy. In the photo to the right, which was published in the Western Gazette, David is shown discussing wood pellet heating with Ecofirst and Woodpecker Directors, Aidan Morris and Tim Rook. Wood fuel heating was high on the agenda of the discussions as Ecofirst is currently installing the district heating and hot water network at the Olympic Sailing Village Athletes’ quarters in Portland, Dorset with the new Woodpecker Thermon boilers having been selected due to the advantage of them being the only ones available that are small enough to fit in the plantrooms.
During his visit, David also discussed the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which we, along with many other businesses have been expecting to be announced over the last few months. Due to the level of expressions of interest in renewable heat installations, Aidan and Tim asked David to lobby The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) for the announcement to be made as soon as possible.
On this development, Zero C are building a range of highly contemporary 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes, they are being built to Code Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes and will be incorporating biomass district heating, solar photovoltaics, wood pellet stoves and rainwater harvesting into the build. The homes are being leased to the Olympic games and will be used as the athletes village for the sailing events and will go on sale this summer for occupation after the Olympics. Some of the properties have been produced as affordable housing for the local community.
