Commercial Biomass Systems

Ecofirst has wide range of experience in the design and installation of complete wood biomass heating solutions, with a particular specialism in district heating systems.

What is biomass heating?

Biomass heating is the production of heat through the use of organic materials like wood. The heat is produced through a combustion process and is used for heating water or air.

Why switch to biomass heating?

The benefits of installing a Wood Biomass System in your business:

  •  Immediate reduction in heating costs

  • Guaranteed payments from the government for 20 years (Renewable Heat Incentive)

  • Tax advantage via the Enhanced Capital Allowance

  • Ensures your business is not exposed to escalating oil and gas prices

  • Significant carbon savings

  • Reduce your businesses exposure to legislation on climate-change

Wood biomass systems are very often the best renewable heating solution in retrofit situations (where the property already has an existing heating system), particularly where significant improvements to the thermal performance of a building are impossible or impractical.

For properties currently heated by oil or off grid gas, wood biomass can often be a very attractive alternative both in terms of reducing energy costs and lowering carbon emissions.

Rising fuel bills are placing an ever increasing burden on finances. The introduction of the governments Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) makes integrating wood biomass boilers particularly attractive and presents a unique opportunity for businesses that have wood biomass heating installed to generate an income from the heat they use.

Biomass fuel is low cost and also provides considerable reductions in carbon compared to fossil fuels such as oil and gas.

What type of biomass system is right for me?

Ecofirst will consider every aspect of a project and provide the best system to suit your need.

Wood biomass boilers are uniquely suited for replacement of oil or off grid gas units. Through our detailed knowledge and experience the Ecofirst team can make them work with existing controls or minimal adjustments in most cases, making retrofit a very viable option.  We also have experience of designing and installed biomass stoves and boilers in new build projects.

Ecofirst selects from a wide range of biomass boilers and stoves ensuring that the product selected meets the requirements of the client.  In our Technical Centre in Yeovil, we have run simulated control and output programmes for several weeks on behalf of clients to ensure smooth installation and operation of the new system. In some cases this has even involved development of new boilers with our sister organisation Woodpecker Energy to deliver a concise solution for the client’s needs!

From large output log, chip or waste wood systems, through highly efficient wood pellet boilers, down to attractive biomass stoves, we have unique experience in a wide range of manufacturer’s products, including designing and installing the appropriate flue type to meet each businesses site and environmental conditions.

District Heating Systems

Ecofirst has a particular specialism in district heating systems powered by wood biomass, usually wood chip or pellet.  We have designed and installed systems for both new build and retrofit projects, ranging from new build housing to commercial/mixed use retrofit.

A project of this scale and complexity requires a bespoke solution. Our team are experts in biomass technology and invest their time and knowledge in designing the most appropriate system for the clients’ needs.
