Take advantage of the Renewable Heat Incentive with a prefabricated wood pellet boiler plantroom from Ecofirst

10th November 2011

Ecofirst are delighted to announce the addition of the Woodpecker Energy FIREBOX, a range of self contained wood pellet boiler plantrooms, to our portfolio of wood biomass heating solutions.

At the heart of the FIREBOX is the Woodpecker Energy Thermon wood pellet boiler which is available in a range of sizes, 150 kW, 199kW, 250 kW and 300 kW.

Larger size FIREBOX can also be engineered with twin boilers. (The first FIREBOX 500 with 2 x 250kW Thermons and 2 x 2250L buffer cylinders is now under construction at our fabricators on Lopenhead Business Park – see photos below).

The standard single boiler FIREBOX contains a single Thermon boiler, a buffer cylinder, a wood pellet silo (both sized in accordance with boiler rating) and all the relevant pumps and control systems. They can also house the equipment necessary to operate a district heat network in instances where the prefab plantroom serves a number of separate buildings.

In Ecofirst’s view the key advantages of using a self-contained, prefab plantroom on retro-fit wood biomass heating projects are as follows:

1.     Rapid speed of installation – the majority of the technical plumbing work in a FIREBOX is carried out in the factory so once it is delivered to site and lowered onto a prepared foundation slab it is simply a matter of connecting it up to the services and creating an interface with the existing heating system
2.     Simplified flue installation – the stand alone nature of the FIREBOX typically makes for a much simpler flue configuration than with an installation in an existing boiler house
3.     Existing boilers can be left in situ as back up – by creating a new plantroom there is little or no demand for space within the building being heated so no need to remove any existing equipment which has the dual benefit of: i.) system back-up, ii.) no removal and disposal costs
4.     A lower cost installation!

Ecofirst is now actively looking for projects to deploy this new and exciting solution that will enable customers to receive attractive payments of the new Renewable Heat Incentive and, for those on heating oil or LPG, save money on their fuel bills.

Additionally, customers installing wood biomass systems before April 2012 will be able to benefit from enhanced capital allowances (ECA) which will enable them to take immediate tax advantages of the full capital outlay.

If you have any projects where the FIREBOX, or indeed any other wood biomass boiler solution, could be appropriate and would like to find out more please do not hesitate to contact us.
